Woman kidnapped, gang raped
A Saturday night outing went terribly wrong for a Bloemfontein couple after they were hijacked by five men in Phase 4 in Bloemfontein last week and who made off with the woman whom they raped before dumping her in an open field.
Police spokesperson warrant officer Zweli Mohobeleli told The Weekly that the couple was driving with a friend in the township when the boyfriend decided to stop the car in order to relieve himself. The girlfriend and the friend remained in the car.
Mohobeleli said it was at that point that the group pounced on them and a struggle ensued.
“They tried to bundle the boyfriend into the boot of his car but he fought and managed to free himself,” said the police spokesperson.
“The friend also managed to free himself during the scuffle and escaped but the woman was not so luck as they caught her and drove off with her,” explained the police spokesperson.
The gang then took the woman to an open field in the same area where three of them allegedly took turns to rape her outside the car.
“The woman was later dumped in the area and the men got away with the car. The car was later found abandoned in the same township,” he added.
The woman, who besides the gruesome sexual assault was reportedly not physically harmed in any other way, was assisted by Good Samaritans to get to the police where she reported the matter.
Police say they are investigating a case of hijacking and rape and launched a manhunt for the suspects.
At the time of going to print last night police had not made any arrests in connection with the matter.
