FS to deal with spike in Covid-19 case

Acting health MEC Thembeni Nxangisa will today (Frid) brief the public on measures being taken by the provincial government to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The Free State has been listed among the top three provinces contributing to high Covid-19 positive cases since the country moved to level 1 of the national lockdown.

Free State health department spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi in a statement said South Africa has seen a slow but steady increase in the overall number of cases nationally since the start of the month – and the Free State is one of the leading provinces responsible for the hike.

Mvambi noted the province is recording more Covid-19 cases every day, and this has become a source of major concern.

“This may, if unattended, lead to an earlier than expected resurgence, or what is popularly referred to as the second wave,” he pointed out.

The province has so far recorded 56 196 positive cases, 1 493 deaths, and 41 290 recoveries.

Health minister Zweli Mkhize has also warned that South Africa is seeing a worrying increase in Covid-19 infections, especially in the Western Cape, and urged all South Africans to adhere to set down regulations.
