Church Street reconstruction and upgrading

Members of the public are advised that a section of Church Street, between Monument/Harvey and Vooruitsig Road, will be reconstructed and upgraded.

The project is expected to take approximately five months.

A concerted effort will be made by the contractor to keep traffic disruptions to a minimum.

Currently the road has two lanes going to the CBD and two lanes going south to the township. During the construction phase the two lanes going to the CBD will be converted to single lanes. i.e. one going south and one going north (CBD).

Once construction is completed on the two lanes going south, the same procedure will be followed to allow construction to take place on the two lanes going north.

Motorists are advised that as from Thursday, 3 May 2012 at 14:00 the southbound will be closed and the northbound will be used as bi directional road.

The municipality is requesting the public to be patient and to exercise care when driving through the construction areas. The use of alternative routes is advisable during the construction phase.
