ANC cleans qwaqwa clinics

The regional secretary of the African National Congress in the Thabo Mofutsanyana region, Abiel Mokotso, was joined by other members of the party in a cleaning campaign at the rural clinics of Tseki and Marakong in QwaQwa last week.

According to Mokotso, the purpose of the initiative was to show that the ANC is a party that cares for the masses.

“We just wanted to show the clinics’ patients that we care for them. We want them to be treated in a very hygienic environment. We are not campaigning for the upcoming elections; if that was the case, we would have called the people and lobbied them to vote us. But what we have here are members of ANC, who have volunteered to come and clean this place.”

The manager of Marakong clinic, Nthabiseng Lekoro, expressed her gratitude to the ANC for its goodwill gesture.

Lekoro said the clinic’s management and staff deeply appreciate the help and encouragement offered by ANC members.

“The visit by ANC members was timeous. They came at the right time when we our gardens and walls needed to get cleaned. The weeds had gotten so big that they made it difficult for our plants to thrive.

“We are happy that our clinic will clean and hygienic come Christmas time. We do not have cleaners here so they came at an opportune time when their intervention was needed most,” added Lekoro.

While the spring cleaning was taking place at the mentioned clinics, the acting executive mayor of the Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality, Vusi Tshabalala and a team made up of  members of the mayoral committee and municipal employees went to clean the Setsing bus terminal area.

Tshabalala also used the opportunity to engage with taxi operators and hawkers that operate in and around the bus terminal. He advised the gathered crowd to help the municipality find solutions to the immediate problems at the facility.

In an interview with The Weekly, Tshabalala said the cleaning campaign enabled him to interact with the people and identify the various challenges the residents within the municipality are faced with.

He further underscored the importance of residents meeting the government halfway to tackle unemployment through self-employment.
