Man P pleads guilty to fraud

Appeared for fraud … Socialite ‘Man P’ with his lawyer outside the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court.
Bloemfontein businessman and socialite Monnapule Enerst Sebeela, affectionately known as Man P, pleaded guilty on 62 counts of cheque fraud when he appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court this week.
Sebeela entered into a plea agreement with the state after he signed fraudulent cheques, which later bounced.
The Weekly has established that the fraud happened during a period when Sebeela faced financial difficulties and was declared insolvent. He allegedly signed cheques, which later bounced, for several retailers such as Shoprite Checkers and Pep Stores.  After realising they were being conned by Sebeela, the retailers opened several cases of fraud against him.
His friends told The Weekly that Sebeela incurred the debt because he was trying to show his friends and girlfriends that he could still afford the comfortable life.
It would appear that Sebeela’s rise and fall lies in his insatiable appetite for the finer things in life – even when he could not afford many of the luxuries he wanted.
At his court appearance on Tuesday, a modest Sebeela was dressed in a light blue long sleeve shirt and traditional black formal pants and was seen having long discussions with his lawyer outside the courtroom after pleading guilty. This is not Sebeela’s first appearance on fraud charges. Last year he was charged for allegedly defrauding the Mbombela Municipality of R2.7-million, earmarked for its employee pension fund. He is set to appear in court in Nelspruit again next week.
