INKABA ACTOR OPENS CASTING AGENCY

The accomplished actor wants to have stories from the Free State told through people of the province

Bloemfontein actors, models, image consultants and voice-over artists, dust your CV’s; Inkaba actor, Kgosi Monye, is opening a casting agency where he will groom and mould all forms of raw talent.

Monye, of Osmund Casting, has rolled up his sleeves and is cultivating the untapped landscape of City of Roses where he is the first actor to establish a casting agency.

The 40-year-old, who played MK’s (John Kani) doctor in INKABA, told The Weekly he will be working with some of well-known television production companies to get the agency off the ground.

“We will be working with Mzansi Magic as they are looking for local content, although I’m not in a position to disclose more details until I have sealed the deal with the sponsors.”

He said the goal of the casting agency is to have stories from the Free State told through people from the province.

“Even if we need to bring a crew and cast in Johannesburg we must keep it minimal as the plan is to stick with the Free State people.”

Monye made his debut as a presenter at the now defunct Bop TV in the 1990’s where he was also trained to be the sharp skilled actor that we have known him to be.

He holds a Speech and Drama qualification and has a close working relationship with the University of Free State’s drama department.

Asked exactly what he would be looking for in his protégés, he was quick to make it clear that he wants people who are driven by passion.

“People must have passion and discipline; that way it will be easy to guide and develop them. This industry is full of prima donnas who will always mess you up.”

Throughout the interview it was hard not to spot the actor’s unpretentiousness. And, asked what kept him so grounded, he timidly said: “This industry is full of very arrogant people, so I’m very particular about the kind of people I involve in my business. As for being humble, that’s a compliment, I guess,” chuckled Monye.
