Artists Win Big at SAMAs

Millions of Mzansi people were glued to SABC 1 last Saturday to witness the glitz and glamour of the 19th Annual MTN South African Music Awards.

The night saw Toya Delazy and Khuli Chana dominating the event, taking home three awards each at the Sun City Superbowl.

Delazy kicked off the night with an enormous performance before receiving awards for the Newcomer of the year, Best Pop Album, thereby confirming her newly found status in the industry after a breakthrough in 2012 with her debut album Duo Prop Deluxe.

The awe-inpirering talented Khuli Chana finally had his moment to shine in the spotlight as all the years of hard work paid off for the Motswako student who took home the coveted  Best Male Artist, Best Rap Album and Album of the Year awards.

The fiercely contested Female rtist of the year award saw song bird Kelly Khumalo fend off stiff competition from a very talented field.

The show, which lasted almost three long hours, witnessed some unique collaborations such as Zonke featuring Kabomo; partners in crime Mahoota and Vetkoek featuring the hilarious dancer Dr Malinga, Sfiso and Khaya featuring Proverb, and Donald among others.

Guest presenters on stage to hand over the awards were some of the leading names such as Nhlanhla Ncinza; the gorgeous Pearl Thusi, Tumi Morake and TS Record artist, Zahara, to name a few.

The album medley was among the major highlights of the star studded troupe as Khuli Chana, Kelly Khumalo, Ntokozo Mbambo, Maleh and Muffinz took to the stage and left the crowd wanting more.

Sfiso Ncwane blissfully poured his heart out to the 5 000 crowd. It’s understandable though as it was an utter surprise.
