The Film and Publication Board (FPB) will be hosting a multi-faceted outreach programme to promote community awareness on the dangers of child pornography and cyber crimes at Mimosa Mall from today, October 12,2012
The Campaign is intended to draw attention to child pornography, and illustrate how it is a social ill that confronts communities across racial, economic and social classes.
The FPB is responsible for the classification of films, games and certain publications and provides consumer advice to members of the public with the intention to protect children from exposure to undesirable and potentially harmful content, especially pornographic content.
The board’s CEO, Yoliswa Makhasi, said the outreach programme is aimed at empowering citizens and law enforcement agencies on how best to respond to cases of cyber crimes involving child pornography.
Makhasi said it is further aimed at getting distributors to comply with the requirements of the Film and Publication Act.
“The outreach initiative is an effort to mobilise society against child pornography and to empower parents and children on how to respond when approached or exposed to this form of illegal material.”
“Our visit to Mangaung is multi-faceted and we will be visiting schools with our ambassadors, Lebo Mashile and Meshack Mavuso (‘Vusi’ of Isidingo), and we will conduct raids on illegal distributors of films and games,” added Makhasi.
Makhasi said the FPB is committed to enforcing the Film and Publications Act and will mobilise society and partners to ensure it deals decisively with elements that continuously break the law and show disregard to existing legislation.
