Six Cheetahs test positive for Covid

The Toyota Cheetahs under-21 side was dealt a blow before their opening game in the SA under-21 championship this weekend after six players and their coach Izak van der Westhuizen tested positive for Covid-19.

The players were immediately withdrawn and placed in quarantine, with kicking and skills coach Albert Keuris taking over the running of the team for their game against the Golden Lions, a game that the Cheetahs won 31-30.

“The players are all tested weekly and after the seven people tested positive last week, the protocol as prescribed by the World Health Organisation and SARU was followed and they were placed in quarantine,” a Cheetahs spokesperson said on Monday.

The Cheetahs next game in the championship is on Thursday when they face the Blue Bulls.
