FS Takes Part In National Arts Festival

The Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR), through its Museum and Language Services, is taking part in the 2019 National Arts Festival underway in Eastern Cape.

The festival commenced on June 27 and ends on July 7 in Makhanda.

DSACR is hosting an exhibition stall consisting of literature, artworks, and crafts by Free State authors and artists.

The department is also showcasing books written in indigenous languages through the WordFest programme.

The National Arts Festival continues to attract audiences from a diverse linguistic and cultural background from across South Africa because of its uniqueness.

Several Free State authors, crafters, and artists are attending the festival to gain exposure to new audiences and sell their craft.

“There is growing international interest in the potential of the cultural and creative industries to drive sustainable development and create inclusive job opportunities. This reaffirms the fact that there is a need to provide more resources to arts and culture programmes,” said MEC Limakatso Mahasa.

“Through arts and culture we continue to pursue the mandate entrusted upon us by the National Development Plan (NDP) Vision of 2030- to transform society and unite the country, as well as to attain social cohesion in our communities,” she noted.
