The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation has released a teaser poster for the Mangaung African Cultural Festival (MACUFE) 2019, as it seeks to lure a bumper crowd to the annual fiesta.
Delivering her budget speech recently, MEC Maki Mahasa said one of the problems identified with the festival was late marketing, which she said negatively affected its attendance.
“We must prioritise the marketing of the festival in order to draw large numbers,” she noted.
With the release of the promotional poster, it appears the department “is walking the talk”.
This year’s edition of the festival will take place from Friday, October 4 and end on Sunday, October 13.
Grammy award-winning artist Deborah Cox is set to headline the event.
The Canadian R&B singer is expected to perform alongside South Africa’s top musicians such as Lira, one of the country’s most successful artists to do well both locally and internationally.
Jeziel Brothers make a long-awaited return to the festival.
Samito has also made the cut. The Afro-Pop singer from the dusty streets of Botshabelo is sure to serenade revellers, given his past performances.
Thandiswa Mazwai and Lady Zamar will also feature in this year’s festival, alongside onfire Sjava.
