An unknown man in his 30s was found dead on Saturday in an open veldt near Va der Vyfer in Odendaalsrus.
The deceased had with seven stab wounds, police said.
The incident has left members of the community in the area reeling in shock.
Police in the area have since launched an intensive search for his next of kin and suspects that could be behind the murder.
Captain Stephen Thakeng confirmed the shocking incident in a press communique yesterday, adding a passer-by going to work made the grisly discovery and immediately alerted the police to the crime.
Thakeng said preliminary investigations have revealed that robbery could have been the motive behind the fatal attack.
“An unknown male person was found fatally stabbed in an open field, relatives and suspects wanted.”
He noted, “The deceased was wearing an oranje jean trouser, yellow t-shirt, black jersey and without shoes.”
Captain Thakeng appealed to members of the community who might have information that can assist the police in their investigations to contact the investigating officer in the matter, detective David Mkwane on 082 301 2797.
Meanwhile in Thabong Welkom, a man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his own elder brother to death following an argument.
Captain Malebo Khosana said shortly after the two had an argument, the elder brother came out of his room holding his bleeding neck.
The suspect and their mother helped the victim to lie down on the bed and summoned the ambulance. However the victim was declared dead on the scene.
Police said preliminary investigations pointed to the brother as the suspect after blood stains that he could not explain were found in his room and his clothing.
“He got arrested and blood samples were taken. Further investigations will continue and the suspect will appear in court soon,” noted Khosana.
