Meqheleng in Ficksburg will in September be the place to be as it once again hosts one of the biggest music festivals in the area.
This follows a public announcement by the project manager of the Michael Mochini birthday celebrations, Teboho Majara, who conceded that deciding the venue and time was not easy.
Majara said proper planning was needed in deciding the venue and the appropriate date that accommodates not only locals but also patrons coming from outside the area.
“Part of the reason why we put up memorable shows year in and out is that we take a lot of elements into account.
“We take into cognisance the pressure from patrons for dates and venues; it’s really humbling. But to ensure that we give patrons their money’s worth, we also have to be afforded the time to make proper logistical arrangements to meet their needs and this what we pride ourselves with,” said Majara when quizzed about the delay.
This year, the festival will take place on September 28 in Fixburg. Previously it has also been held in Clocolan.
Now in its 5th year, the event has come to cement its spot on the entertainment calendar, with patrons coming from Bloemfontein, Laydybrand, Thaba Nchu and neighboring Lesotho.
Asked about the date, Majara said a lot of consideration went into reaching that final conclusion.
“We didn’t suck it from our thumbs. We had earlier dates which were up for grabs and most convenient for us but we had to agree on an inclusive one and I can safely say I am more than comfortable with this one,” he noted.
While fans are excited over the release of the official date for Mochini’s birthday bash, questions around the line-up have emerged but organisers have opted to keep mum about it all.
“Ours was to deal with issues of the date which patrons have been pestering us about. We’ve addressed the issue now. Next on the card will be line-up which is up for discussion in our next planning session,” explained Majara. He however, noted that local artists will be given first preference this year.
